ROLE PURPOSE:
The Child Protection (CP) Assistant will implement activities in an effort to build the resilience and provide child protection and support services to poor and vulnerable children in the governorate. This CP programme is supported by the EU and implemented directly through local Yemeni partner organizations through activities including training, workshops, service mapping, literacy, and various activities with community members, in schools, and through Family Centers. The Assistant will have a diverse workload and be the primary contact and support person for the local partner organization, with a similar position and partner operating in Lahj.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- To assist the Child Protection Officer in the planning, development and implementation of child protection activities.
- Monitor child protection activities that are implemented through the local partners in target areas.
- Support and coach staff of Family Centers (FC), facilitators and children in the development and implementation of child protection activities inside the family centre and in schools.
- Support and coach staff of implementing partners and community facilitators to develop, prepare and conduct community outreach, awareness and educational activities for parents, community leaders and service providers (teachers, school management staff, social workers)
- Support FC staff ing coordinating with local authorities, community leaders, school managements and teachers, regarding the organization and implementation of child protection activities
- Conduct child protection and child rights trainings for FC staff.
- Support administrative tasks such as preparing Purchase Requests.
- Prepare reports for the supervisor with statistical and narrative information on the progress of the protection programming in the targeted communities
- Work in close collaboration with other SC staff (Wash, Education, etc.) in the target areas – develop joint work plans.
- Any other duties as required.
Requirements:
- 2 years experience in a similar post, preferably with an International NGO.
- 1 year experience of working with children, parents, and communities on development or humanitarian aid project activities.
- Experience and skills preparing lessons/curricula and conducting trainings/workshops on different topics.
- Experience working in child protection, child/human rights, legal assistance, social work, advocacy, local NGO support, and/or training/teaching/education.
- Ability to organize time and manage multiple tasks on different topics at one time under pressure.
- Good attitude, hardworking, and able to take initiative and work well within a team.
- Ability to verbally communicate with rural populations (in Arabic) and resolve conflicts.
- Knowledge of the areas of intervention (Aden) and ability to relate with variety of stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively to the project site (Aden), and sometimes in difficult or insecure circumstances within Aden and/or to other project sites in Lahj, Taiz, or Sana’a.
- Experience supervising others is preferred, coaching and mentoring is a bonus.
- Computer skills to create and input into Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents and navigate the internet.
- Excellent Arabic required, very good English (speaking, writing, reading, and typing) skills are preferred.
